Head Study #148

Well, since I messed up with the paint making the last time, I thought I would try this again with a proper paint mixture.  So here is Tamara Karsavina, 1914.  But I really don't think the paint behaved much differently.

Paper: Arches, 140 lb, cold press, 15 x 22"

Paint: Home made PB82 Maya Blue Dark, this time with no ox gall.

Head Study #147

Tonight I present another one of those monochrome John Singer Sargent charcoal drawings of Tamara Karsavina, 1914.  She was a Russian prima ballerina who later moved to the UK.

Paper: Arches, 140 lb, cold press, 15 x 22"

Paint: Home made PB82 Maya Blue Dark

Yep, I made the paint myself.  Mulled it and everything.  But I think I put in too much Ox Gall, so I'll make another batch.

Head Study #145

Back to the Duchess II.  Here is a monochrome copy of the third de Laszlo painting from 1908 when she was about 11 years old.  I noticed that I messed up and the Arches watermark is upside down in the upper left, instead of on the bottom right.  I don't know how I missed that.

Head Study #142

Today I present a portrait from an old photograph of Queen Emma Kaleleonalani of Hawaii (1836-1885).  I'm playing around with paints in an additive way, starting off with a black sheet of paper and any paint adds light to the painting.  Previous examples starting off with a white sheet of paper and each stroke of the brush takes away (subtracts) light.

Anyways, just playing around and... testing boundaries.  Yeah, that's it.  I'm testing boundaries everyone!  It's what the internet is all about, right?  Of course it is.

Paper: Stonehenge Aqua, 140 lb, cold press, 10 x 15"

Paint: Dirty Blue, Titanium Pearl PW20 + PW6
