Head Study #32

Here is a copy of an Annigoni ink drawing.  Excepting his was in black ink, not this blue stuff.

Head Study #31

I think this is a copy of an Annigoni sketch.  Or it might be a Feschin.  I forgot with.

Why Not... Head Study #30

A fortnight ago I bought a new computer.  To replace an old one that had a hard drive crash last September.  Yeah, I know.  I had a back up drive and the data transfer went well.  But I had completely forgot what I was thinking when I arranged my files back then.  Well, I'm mostly caught up and back to regular practice.  So that may explain the absence and then suddenly flurry of new posts.

Here is on of Jenny Gerome, Winston Churchill's mum.  Sargent did a charcoal of her.  And I was trying to watercolor an old photograph.  But it's not very Sargent-y.

Head Study #29

It's a larger version of what just went up.  I started it before the other, but windy weather prompted me to find some way to paint plain air with 19 mph winds.  I think in the near future I'll paint water colors in the day and oil at night.  Hopefully warmer weather is ahead and the better portability of watercolor will pay off.

Back to Oils

I don't think I've painted in oil since last October.  That's the date that I wrote on my jar of mixed medium.  It was rainy today... and figure what the hell.  So I picked up where I left off a long time ago.  I think watercolor has improved my oil.

Head Study #28

This is a small one I am playing around with to find some wind resistant system.  Instead of an easel, I held this in my hand.  It sort of works.

Head Study #27

Here is a copy of a painting by Pietro Annigoni.  Sorry, I missed photographing the first stage.

Head Study #26

Here is a screen cap of Louise Brooks, a silent film era actress.  It's hard to get much detail from those old films.

Head Study #25

This is supposed to be Ingrid Bergman, from the film uhm... the one with Gregory Peck... ahh...  Anyways, it's done.

I thought I would recall the title after posting the pictures.  It's a psychological term.  Grsh...

Head Study #24

Here is a larger size study of a John Singer Sargent charcoal drawing.  Till this point I've been painting to the edges of the paper.  But now I think I'll try to center the study and have margins when doing these copies.  Also it's difficult painting when I'm freezing.  The apartment heating is off for the season now, while temperatures have dipped into the 30s this weekend.

Head Study #23

I planned to stretch a batch of paper yesterday and quickly finished this one off to add to the cue.  I had to fix an eye at one point.  But a good learning exercise.

Head Study #22

Here is a copy of John Singer Sargent's charcoal portrait of Myra Hess.  I lost it some where.  I've always head trouble with this one.

Head Study #21

Here is a copy of a John Signer Sargent charcoal portrait.    I'm somewhat pleased with the result.  Given more practice with the brush I think I can replicate one of Sargent's mugs.

Head Study #20

This is a photographic reference used by the painter Jules Lefebvre for one of his paintings.  I thought I'd give it a try.
